How Do We Divide Polynomials

this is the long division method

Dividing polynomials is very easy
take a simply problem like (x+2x+1)/(x+1)
the diamond method will be helpful here.
take x+2x+1 and make the diamond
  1. place the two on the top and the 1 on the bottom
  2. figure out what to numbers multiply to 1 and add up to 2
after we find that 1 and 1 add up to 2 and multiplied to 1
  3. now we replace the 2 with two 1's
    so we get (x+1x+1x+1)/(x+1)or (x+1)(x+1)/(x+1)
  4. now we cancel out (x+1)/(x+1)= 1
  5. so the final answer is  (x+1)/1 which equals  x+1

  1. great explanation. i like that you went even further than what we have time to cover in class - using the long division method.
